Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most liftgates have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this custom fit hatch lift support. This gas strut is gonna replace one lift support arm on your vehicle's hatch. It is going to extend to help hold your hatch open and then gently compress while closing, making sure you're not slamming your fingers or anything like that. This is a custom fit, it is going to work for your 1992 through 2000 Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari. And so, if you have either one of those, this is going to fit right in place of that original.
So it does have the ball socket on the one end and then the threaded end on the other side. That connection is going to install directly to your existing OEM fitting, so very easy to get installed right in place of that original. This does feature dampening technology that's gonna provide a nice, smooth operation to help eliminate bouncing or jumping, ensures frictionless movement in all weather conditions. Does have this nitride coated steel shaft that is corrosion resistant for long lasting performance. When we have it extended like this, from the center of our ball socket to the beginning of that threaded portion, not counting the threaded portion itself, we are sitting at about 21 1/4 of an inch.
When we have this compressed, it'll go down to 12 1/2 inches. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty, so if you are needing to replace that original gas strut support arm for your Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari's hatch, this is gonna be exactly what you need.
